If you decided to ask ChatGPT about what is going on in Venezuela this morning, you would be told that you’re simply making it up.It would also tell you that any news reports suggesting otherwise were merely ‘misinformation, satire, or speculation.’ The AI chatbot clearly has not been reading headlines and news articles, as it is oblivious to the US invasion of Venezuela and how the South American country’s leader was taken. When Metro asked ChatGPT ‘Why did the United States invade Venezuela and capture its leader Nicolás Maduro?’, the AI told us that the ‘event has never occurred.’ The AI chatbot wrongly clarified that there had been no U.S military invasion of the country, Nicolás Maduro has not been arrested or captured and there has been no regime change led by US troops.
ChatGPT then continues to break down what ‘did’ happen, which is apparently ‘often confused with an invasion.’ It describes the US sanctions and pressure imposed on Venezuela, the criminal charges against Maduro in 2020, the recognition of Juan Guaidó as interim president and the small, failed mercenary raid known as Operation Gideon. After all of that, the ‘bottom line’ for ChatGPT is that ‘there has been intense US opposition to Maduro’ but ‘no US invasion and no capture’ of him.It also continues to tell you: ‘If you saw a headline, video, or post claiming otherwise, it was either misinformation, satire, or speculation.’ What has actually happened in Venezuela? The US has attacked Venezuela and captured its leader, Nicolás Maduro.
US President Donald Trump described his overnight blitz on the country to capture its leader as the greatest military operation since World War II.The operation, which had been planned by US intelligence forces for months, began early on Saturday morning when explosions were heard in several areas around the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. At 3.46am UK time on Saturday, Trump gave the green light for US forces to strike.
Firstly, the US cut the power across Caracas and then more than 150 aircraft took to the skies throughout the night.US troops arrived at Maduro’s hideout at 2.01am local time and soldiers caught the leader just as he was trying to get into a safe room. After being captured and flown to the US yesterday morning, Maduro was filmed arriving at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.
