CarPlay Ultra arrived this year after taking a bit longer than expected to materialize. The only catch is that next-generation CarPlay is only offered in cars that start around $200,000.That appears to be changing soon with an affordable EV option coming soon.
Apple CarPlay is super popular in cars these days, and CarPlay Ultra goes further than ever by taking over almost all of the carmaker’s user interface.CarPlay Ultra appears both on the infotainment center displays and the screens behind the steering wheel.System controls like climate control and more also use Apple’s design.
For now, Aston Martin is the only automaker that has shipped CarPlay Ultra, yet more automakers are committed to allowing an Apple-designed UI takeover in the future.According to the publication Top Gear, Hyundai may be about to disrupt the CarPlay Ultra space in a big way.The upcoming Ioniq 3 is said to support Apple’s new CarPlay Ultra system, allowing iPhone users to experience CarPlay with much deeper integration than the current standard.
Here’s the mention included in a story that appeared this week: Aside from being generally more affordable, the Hyundai Ioniq 3 could make for the first electric vehicle with CarPlay Ultra. While many of the EV-only automakers don’t support CarPlay at all, Hyundai could be the first car brand to adopt next-generation CarPlay. The EV is expected to cost something in the ballpark of $35,000 and offer a 365-mile range between charges.
Hyundai is set to show it off soon at the Munich Motor Show, happening from September 9 through September 14.Read more about the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 3 EV from our colleagues at Electrek.Apple AirTag | Add Find My tracking to anything Beats USB-A to USB-C Cable | The official CarPlay cable Wireless CarPlay Adapter | No more plugging in required AirPods 4 | Apple’s most affordable AirPods with ANC You’re reading 9to5Mac — experts who break news about Apple and its surrounding ecosystem, day after day.
