Rumor: smaller Dynamic Island but no under-screen Face ID for iPhone 18 - 9to5Mac

As Apple continues towards their goal of a true all-screen iPhone, it looks like the iPhone 18 will get them one step closer. There have long been conflicting rumors on when the Dynamic Island might finally see a design update. Most recently, it was rumored that the iPhone 17 may have a smaller Dynamic Island, but that of course didn’t pan out.

However, according to Instant Digital on Weibo, the iPhone 18 lineup will see a narrower Dynamic Island cutout, but will not yet be making the move to an under-screen Face ID or front camera: Instant Digital has provided accurate information in the past, such as the iPhone 14 in Yellow and a landscape front camera on the 2024 iPad Air.However, they have also provided some wrong information, so keep that in mind when considering this rumor.Wrap up Since its introduction with the iPhone 14 Pro, the Dynamic Island has not changed in size or shape, so a narrower design would be a fairly significant change.

It would also mean that when the Dynamic Island is in use for things like Live Activities, it would take up less space on your screen and in your status bar.My favorite Apple accessories: Beats Pill MOFT MagSafe iPhone Stand Satechi Vegan Leather Desk Mat BenQ ScreenBar Pro AirPods Pro 3 elago Magnetic iPad Stand TUMI Alpha Bravo Nomadic Backpack Beats Charging Cables You’re reading 9to5Mac — experts who break news about Apple and its surrounding ecosystem, day after day.Be sure to check out our homepage for all the latest news, and follow 9to5Mac on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to stay in the loop.
