Speaking at a press conference Friday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta said he’s “prepared to sue if appropriate” after President Trump threatened to slap Apple with a 25% tariff unless the company moves its iPhone manufacturing to the U.S.Answering a question by a Politico reporter at an event with local business leaders, Bonta said: Bonta was reacting to Trump’s post earlier that morning on Truth Social, in which the president pressed Apple CEO Tim Cook to start manufacturing the iPhone in the U.S., “not in India, or anyplace else”.Later in the day, Trump said the same 25% tariff would apply to “Samsung and any other company that makes that product or it would not be fair.” Bonta added: The AG, who has previously targeted Big Tech over privacy and monopoly concerns, said his office will examine the legal basis for any tariff action stemming from Trump’s threat and will monitor whether it targets a single company or applies more broadly.
