Chuck E.
Cheese and his friends are headed for a magical adventure in , an upcoming animated special that stars Nathan Kress, Grey DeLisle, Nolan North, Kari Wahlgren, Fred Tatasciore, and Michael Gough. It streams on Thanksgiving, November 27, on Prime Video and YouTube. And we’ve got an exclusive clip to show just how much fun is in store for audiences… because when it comes to Chuck E.
Cheese, that’s how we roll… In the clip, “Partymobile to the Rescue,” Chuck E.Cheese and his friends Helen Henny, Jasper Jowls, Bella Brinca and Munch hop in the Partymobile as they race to deck the halls! Join the whole gang for a magical adventure to save Christmas filled with music, laughter, and holiday cheer! Indeed! Industry veterans Zac Moncrief and Jon Colton Barry write and executive produce.Moncrief shared with AWN, “The exclusive clip you guys have is a fun scene from early in the special where Chuck E., Helen, Jasper, Bella, and Munch race through the streets trying to deliver holiday cheer to a town that has lost its Christmas spirit.
Because this special is also functioning as a pilot for a potential series, this scene also helps introduce and establish the unique, funny personalities we’ve evolved in our characters, so the audience gets to know them from the inside out.” Barry adds, “This was a really perfect project for us, as Zac and I had worked with decades-old, classic franchise characters before, like - as well as playing a large part in developing modern franchise characters like .So, the opportunity to work with the huge range of fairly undefined Chuck E.Cheese characters that have shuffled and evolved for almost 50 years was such a gift.
We all wanted to create something that said, ‘This is NOT the Chuck E.Cheese you think you know.’” He continues, “CEC had made a ton of little short music videos, or digital shorts with puppets - much of it for showing at the fun centers or their YouTube channel. They had never, however, used the characters in any long-from narrative storytelling.
They certainly understand their brand and audience, so had very clear ideas what ‘is’ or ‘isn’t’ right for them, but they were amazingly generous in the freedom they gave me and Zac to reimagine and rebuild their beloved characters to work as a comedic ensemble. We added to their baselines and dimensionalized Chuck E., his friends, and their world to allow us to tell full, rich, heartwarming, and really funny stories.Hopefully, this Christmas special is just the first.” In the special, alongside his pals Helen Henny, Jasper Jowls, Bella Brinca, Munch, and Pasqually, Chuck E.
creates a plan to throw a surprise party to lift Santa’s Christmas spirits. However, surprising the man who “sees you when you’re sleeping and knows when you’re awake” won’t be easy.“This Christmas special is a dream project in so many ways,” Moncrief explains.
“First, I am a total Christmas fanatic, so a chance to give new generations the kind of childhood magic I used to feel watching the classic holiday specials growing up means the world to me., , .It’s like ‘giving back’ - or ‘paying the magic forward,’ you know?” Noting this is the fourth or fifth Christmas special he’s worked on with Barry, Moncrief goes on to say, “I would jump on ANY opportunity to work with Jon Colton Barry on any project.
He and I share the same care and passion about the work. We’re always trying to avoid easy parodies and tell completely original holiday stories that could ONLY be told with our specific characters. Those sorts of self-imposed restrictions always lead to new, interesting or hilarious ideas we’ve never seen before.
That’s the fun of it.I know if Jon and I have each other rolling on the floor laughing, we’ll be able to get it up on the screen and share it with the audience.”
The special will debut two cheerful tunes co-written by Barry, Moncrief, composer Ben Bromfield (“Ginny & Georgia”), and Barry’s father, legendary songwriter Jeff Barry, (songwriter of “I’m A Believer” for The Monkees, “Sugar Sugar”, for The Archies, and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” popularized by Darlene Love, Mariah Carey, and Michael Bublé).Dan Sarto is Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Animation World Network.
