New H-series chip When Apple released its new USB-C version of AirPods Max last fall, it neglected to update the H1 chip in the headphones.This decision means AirPods Max are lacking many of the H2-exclusive features found in the more affordable AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4.But when AirPods Max 2 arrive, they’re expected to finally include an updated H-series chip.
Likely this will be an H3 chip, which AirPods Pro 3 are expected to debut in the coming year.Launch date in 2027 Unfortunately, the latest rumors indicate we won’t see AirPods Max 2 launch until 2027.Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported that Apple plans for the hardware revision to “enter mass production in 2027.” Though Apple could launch new AirPods Max at any point during the year, it most often reserves new AirPods for fall launches—meaning we’re likely still two full years away from the new model.
