The co-founder and president of production at the Fox-owned animation studio exits the company, reportedly on good terms, as of today.
Joel Kuwahara, Co-Founder and President of Production at Fox-owned Bento Box Entertainment, is stepping down, effective today, September 12.He reportedly leaves on good terms, opting along with the studio not to renew his contract.
In a statement made to AWN, Fernando Szew, President & Head of Fox Entertainment Studios said, “As Bento Box Entertainment further integrates into FOX Entertainment Studios, the award-winning animation house enters a new chapter in its journey of creative excellence. While Joel Kuwahara steps away from his role, his vision as one of the founders of Bento Box and his dedication greatly contributed to its success. We wish him well in his future pursuits.” Just last month, the studio elevated longtime executive Dana Tafoya-Cameron to EVP & Head of Bento Box Entertainment and Animation, and Netflix alum Michelle Huynh to EVP, Studio Content Operations.
Both executives report directly to Szew.Kuwahara is the last of the studio’s three founders to leave - Scott Greenberg exited in 2023, while Mark McJimsey left in 2016.The trio founded the company in 2009 – it was acquired by Fox in 2019 as part of the Disney – 21st Centura Fox merger.
