Samsung reportedly just cancelled a major Galaxy S26 phone

Samsung has been regularly releasing its flagship Galaxy S Android phones for well over a decade.Nowadays, the tech giant opts to unveil its best phones of the year in January or February as it did earlier in 2025 with the Galaxy S25 line up.This included the S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, but then in May this year, Samsung added a fourth device to the S25 family when it launched the ultra-thin S25 Edge, which is just 5.8mm thick compared to the 8.2mm S25 Ultra.Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT Read more: Samsung could rival the iPhone Air with an even thinner Galaxy phone Read more: I want to love the Galaxy S25 Edge but Samsung failed to deliver one vital thing Even though the S25 Edge is the first of its kind, according to reports, Samsung has already pulled the plug on the S26 Edge, meaning the S25 Edge could be set to become a curious footnote in Samsung smartphone history.According to Korean media outlet NewsPim and backed up by SamMobile, Samsung has cancelled the Galaxy S26 Edge, which would have been 2026’s successor to the S25 Edge.“The main reason for this decision is said to be significantly lower-than-expected sales”, NewsPim reported (translated from Korean).SamMobile said Samsung had initially planned to drop the ‘Plus’ model from the S26 line up, replacing it with the S26 Edge that would launch alongside a regular S26 and the high-end S26 Ultra, with no S26 Plus model.

The phone has many of the same specs as the S25 Ultra but in an unbelievably thin chassis, though the battery life was less than pleasing. While it didn’t die on me over the course of a day, it hit 10 percent regularly after medium use, and I had battery anxiety on a phone that cost £1,099.The S25 Edge also lacks a telephoto camera, though it does have a main and ultra-wide lens where the iPhone Air only has a single shooter. It'll be interesting to see if this spells the end of slim phones given the trend has barely begun.Apple didn't call its new phone the iPhone 17 Air, just 'iPhone Air', suggesting it might not be substantially updated next year.
