DaVinci Resolve has new immersive tools for spatial video editing - 9to5Mac

Today, Blackmagic Design announced a major update to DaVinci Resolve Studio, with extended support for editing spatial videos captured with its immersive camera. Here’s what’s new.Last year, Blackmagic Design launched the URSA Cine Immersive camera, which it called “the world’s first commercial camera system designed to capture Apple Immersive Video.” With a double-lens system that records stereoscopic 3D videos, the camera was launched alongside an updated version of DaVinci Resolve that “let editors pan, tilt and roll clips for viewing on 2D monitors or on Apple Vision Pro for an even more immersive editing experience”.

Now, Blackmagic has announced DaVinci Resolve 20.1, which expands those tools with advanced masking features to exclude unwanted objects captured in immersive shots, and a more streamlined workflow to convert immersive images to flat compositions “so customers can patch or paint, add graphics or text.” Resolve 20.1 also brings export presets for Apple’s Immersive Video Utility, letting you drag and drop final renders straight into a Vision Pro.A new ProRes bundle option is available for workflows using Apple Compressor. The update also adds native support for Apple’s Spatial Audio Format (ASAF), allowing immersive sound mixing across Fairlight’s full 3D panner system.

Here’s Blackmagic’s full list of new features on DaVinci Resolve 20.1: The update is free for DaVinci Resolve Studio users, and there are sample immersive clips available to download on the company’s website.Mac deals on Amazon Limited Mac deals on Amazon MacBook Air 15-inch, M4, 16GB/256GB: $999 (17% off) MacBook Pro 15-inch, M4, 16GB/512GB: $1,299 (19% off) MacBook Air 13-inch, M4, 16GB/256GB: $799 (20% off)   You’re reading 9to5Mac — experts who break news about Apple and its surrounding ecosystem, day after day.Be sure to check out our homepage for all the latest news, and follow 9to5Mac on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to stay in the loop.Don’t know where to start?
