These 4 apps make Gemini feel like a real assistant

I used to keep an AI tool open in a separate tab whenever I needed help with something. It was almost automatic: think of a question, open an AI chatbot, type it in, and boom — you got what you were looking for. After doing those steps a million times a day, I got frustrated.

So I did what any person would do: I used AI to ask how I could stop using AI while using AI.Makes sense, right? Then I started using Gemini with the apps I already use every day. Now, instead of constantly jumping between apps, I can use Gemini to work with Google Maps, Google Keep, and Google Sheets.

And then there’s one app I definitely didn't expect to see on the list: YouTube Music. Here’s how I’m using these apps to turn Gemini into a productivity powerhouse.Google Maps From a vague idea to a full plan I’ve always been the one who plans trips in my friend group.

Maybe it’s because I’m annoyingly good at finding places, building an itinerary, and making sure that we don’t waste half the day figuring out what to do next.Earlier, I’d open Google Maps, run multiple searches, and try to remember every one of them.It worked, but it definitely tested my patience.

Now, I can simply open Gemini, type in this prompt, and let it do the initial legwork for me.“Plan a Saturday outing in Ahmedabad with a good breakfast spot, a fun activity, and a nice dinner place nearby.Always choose highly rated places.” Gemini helps me turn a vague idea into an actual plan by handling multiple requirements at once.

Instead of searching for breakfast, activities, and dinner separately, I can throw everything into one message, and even with my half-broken English, Gemini knows what I mean.Google Keep I don’t have to type it twice Google Keep has always been my favorite from the Google Workspace lineup.I’m a heavy note-taker, so Keep is where I dump almost everything: my recipes, shopping lists, travel plans, dinner date ideas, and so on.

But whenever Gemini gave me something I wanted to save, I’d still have to copy it, open Keep, create a note, and paste it there. Now I order Gemini to perform all these tasks. For the above plan, I would add: “@Google Keep Save these restaurant recommendations to a new note called Saturday outing.” That’s it.

No more copying and keeping two tabs open. This little shortcut is a lifesaver for someone like me, saving me from the tedious copy-and-paste routine. It also keeps my notes organized and gives all my overthinking a place to go.

My husband uses it too when he wants to find our shared note, “Don’t forget groceries,” without having to dig through Keep himself.Related I’ve used Google Keep for years, and these 5 features still surprise me Keep keeps my life together.Posts 4 By  Sanya Shah Google Sheets Turning data into order is Gemini’s strong suit Close I was never good at math, and apparently, that weakness followed me into Google Sheets.

Give me a complicated formula, and I’m already wondering if I really need that spreadsheet.I used to spend more time Googling how to write formulas and apply them to my data. And even after all that effort, I still couldn’t get them to work correctly.

My brain would start looking for an exit the moment numbers and formulas entered the picture, but not anymore.I simply integrated Google Sheets with Gemini, and voila! I no longer have to sit there trying to remember what VLOOKUP really does.I just tell Gemini what my goal is, and it helps me figure out what formula or structure I need.

I also use prompts like “calculate the total,” “turn these numbers into a bar graph,” or “find the highest value in this column,” and plenty more. You get the idea.YouTube Music — the surprise entry Gemini isn’t just for work At first, I thought connecting YouTube Music to Gemini might be nothing more than a gimmick.

But after actually using it, I started to see the magic.I tell Gemini what my mood is today, and it finds the right music for me.I don’t do the tedious job here either.

No more opening YouTube Music, going through all my playlists, finally choosing a song, and playing it.Whether I’m looking for something upbeat while I’m working, a playlist for a lazy afternoon, or just a particular song that has been stuck in my head since morning, I can ask Gemini and let it handle the search.Try it yourself and see how Gemini can handle your soundtrack, too.

Related I asked Gemini, ChatGPT, and Copilot to build a project management app—the winner surprised me All three assistants created usable offline tools, but one stood out with smarter decisions and thoughtful extras.Posts 1 By  Tony Phillips The real magic is in the connections You don’t need 50 complicated automation steps to see what Gemini can actually do.Sometimes, the simplest option is the one that saves you the most time.

Gemini really does a lot by planning a complicated trip for me, taking notes, doing the math, and uplifting me.Of course, these integrations aren’t going to completely change my life, but they do take a few annoying steps out of my everyday tasks. And honestly, that’s enough for me.

Thank you, Gemini!!
