Article continues below ADVERTISEMENTSo, that's the new devices, but the biggest news could actually be the upgrade coming to products you already own.Sonos has confirmed its next-generation operating system, Sonos 27, which promises a major expansion of what its speakers can do.The company says the new platform will bring AI control through multiple assistants and agents, new ways to move audio around your home and a much more intuitive app experience.And yes, ChatGPT is part of the plan.Sonos 27 will allow listeners to control their systems using the AI assistant of their choice, including OpenAI's ChatGPT.“With this Sonos integration, people can ask ChatGPT to play music anywhere in their home from their phone or computer, without leaving the conversation they’re having,” said Atty Eleti, product lead for ChatGPT Voice at OpenAI.“It’s a simple way to stay in the moment, and we’re excited to bring it to Sonos listeners around the world.”Things are set to get even smarter with Sonos also previewing Custom Agents.The feature will allow users to create their own AI agents within the Sonos platform, complete with their own model, persona and voice.And then there's the app.
Sonos is rolling out a raft of improvements aimed at making its software easier and more intuitive to navigate.That's particularly important given the backlash surrounding its previous major app overhaul, which left many users frustrated by constant connection issues and music not playing.This time, Sonos says the new experience has been shaped and tested with the help of its community.Hopefully, that means a much smoother launch – and no repeat of the speaker chaos that followed the last major update."Twenty years ago, we made a bet that the rest of the industry is only now arriving at – a home deserves an audio operating system made just for it," said Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos."Sonos 27 takes that further, bringing acoustic engineering, adaptable software, intelligence and design together in a way only Sonos can.This is just the start of what our audio operating system can do."The Sonos 27 app update will begin rolling out next week, while the new hardware is available to pre-order now.UK prices start at £699 for the Beam Ultra and £399 for the Ace Ultra.
