Kuxiu's X40 Turbo brings Qi2.2 fast 25W charging to your iPhone - 9to5Mac

Wireless charging and iPhones have had an interesting relationship. While Android phones had wireless charging extremely early, it took Apple years to adopt the regular Qi wireless charging with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus back in 2017.Back then, it only charged at 7.5W, and it was not very efficient.

Then Magsafe and the Qi2 standard recently came around and allowed iPhones to charge at 15W.But now we are getting Qi2.2, which is faster, cooler, and more efficient, and Kuxiu is the first to bring it to us.Here is what you should know about the new X40 Turbo and Qi2.2 charging.

Kuxiu X40 Turbo I have been a huge fan of Kuxiu’s 3 in 1 chargers for years. They are well-made, reliable, and offer unbeatable value. For instance, if you do not care about charging speed, their X55 3 in 1 charger is still great at under $30! But again, that only charges at 7.5W, and we are here for something much faster.

Here are the specs of the brand new X40 Turbo: 25W fast charging for Qi2.2 supported devices Charges at 15W for non Qi2.2 supported devices Fast charges Apple Watch and AirPods 25% smaller and slimmer than the original X40 stand Never crosses 40°C, to stay cool and efficient Comes with USB-C to USB-C braided cable, 45W power brick, and hard shell carrying case This 3 in 1 wireless charger checks every box you need.It is rated to charge an iPhone 16 Pro from 0 to 80% in just under an hour, and the fact that it comes with a 45W charging brick is amazing. But what exactly is Qi2.2? Old vs new wireless charging explained With all of these new charging standards, marketing terms, and ways of charging, I wanted to briefly explain the difference so you are educated when it comes to buying the correct charger.

There are three main forms of wireless charging you should know: Regular Qi wireless charging: All iPhones from iPhone 8 and newer support this type of charging. This is your normal, garden-variety wireless charging mat.It charges at 7.5W and does not require the charger to have magnets to be Qi certified.

This still works fine for overnight charging, but it takes hours to fully charge a modern iPhone.Qi2 wireless charging: Two things separate this from regular Qi charging.Firstly, the charging gets bumped up to 15W from 7.5W.

Second, magnets are integrated into the charger itself for alignment and mounting purposes. While Qi2 and MagSafe are basically the same on paper, MagSafe was a standard created by Apple, while Qi2 was a universal standard that all manufacturers can support. But both Qi2 and Magsafe produce the same outcome: 15W magnetic charging.

Qi2.2 wireless charging: This is the newest innovation in wireless charging. It bumps up the speed to 25W of charging and also requires temperatures to stay below 40°C to get the certification.Still has the magnet alignments So, in short, Qi2.2 is makes wireless charging finally make sense for daily use, and the X40 Turbo is one of the first chargers to support it.

Hands-on experience I’ve been testing the X40 Turbo, and it’s been nothing but positive. As I mentioned, I have used a few of Kuxiu’s chargers, and the first thing that stood out to me about the X40 Turbo was its size.It was much smaller, thinner, and lighter than its predecessors.

Even the carrying case it comes with is smaller, making this extremely portable. It’s made of CNC aluminum so it also feels extremely premium.Of course, all I wanted to test was the charging speed and ensure it wouldn’t overheat.

I used my iPhone 16 Pro, which was at 10% battery, to do some testing.First off, from a speed perspective, I consistently got 24W charging speeds. It would sometimes touch 25W but would then go back to 24W, which is totally fine.

The fact that I got sustained charging at 24W wirelessly is fantastic. After about 30 minutes, I touched the charger and it was ever so slightly warm but not hot at all. That is expected when you wirelessly charge at this speed and I was happy it was not hot to the touch.

Then lastly, I went from 10% to 80% in under 50 minutes, which is unheard of when wirelessly charging an iPhone.Overall, I am very happy with this new Qi2.2 charger and it now has a permanent spot on my desk and in my travel pack. But which iPhones support this? Which iPhones support Qi2.2? In terms of support, only the iPhone 16 lineup supports the 25W Qi2.2 charging.

The X40 Turbo will still charge older iPhones but at 15W.Then the new iPhone 17 line up will also fully support the 25W Qi2.2 charging.Pricing, availability & final thoughts The X40 Turbo is available today from Kuxiu’s site for $79.99.

It comes in two colors: black and silver.Fior that price, you get the 3 in 1 charger, a braided cable, a 45W charging brick and a carrying case, insane value. If you plan to get any of the new iPhone 17 phones or currently have an iPhone 16, this is a no-brainer.

Putting your phone on a wireless charger and getting an actual charge in just 15 minutes gives you so much peace of mind.Let me know what you think. Are you getting a new iPhone 17? Do you like the idea of faster wireless charging? Let’s discuss below.
