The shark is not constantly on screen, so much of the tension comes from what might be underneath the water.Roy Scheider plays Brody with the right balance of nervousness and thrill, while Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw make the second half even better to watch, as the three men head out to sea.John Williams’ score does a lot of the heavy lifting, but the editing and sound are just as important to creating the tense atmosphere.
