Oracle expects Helios to connect with OCI compute, networking, storage, identity, and data services, with customers using existing governance and access controls.Quantinuum has described the agreement as a deployment of Helios as an OCI service.The planned setup will place the hardware inside Oracle’s infrastructure alongside OCI’s existing classical compute resources.Oracle puts Helios inside OCIOracle joins AWS, Microsoft, and IBM in providing access to quantum computing through cloud infrastructure.Amazon Braket provides access to quantum processors from several hardware providers, Microsoft Azure Quantum offers access to systems including Quantinuum hardware, and IBM Quantum Platform gives users access to IBM’s own quantum processors alongside Qiskit development and execution tools.Quantinuum hardware is already accessible through Azure Quantum, including access to trapped-ion systems, emulators, and development tools.
Under the Oracle agreement, Helios will instead be installed inside an Oracle AI data centre and integrated with OCI compute, networking, storage, identity, and data services.Oracle also plans to combine Quantinuum’s development tools with open-source hybrid programming frameworks.The service is intended to support applications that divide workloads between quantum and classical computing systems.Building hybrid quantum workloadsAWS, Quantinuum, and other quantum providers are developing services that combine quantum processors with classical compute resources.In these environments, conventional CPUs, GPUs, or HPC systems can handle parts of a workload while selected tasks are submitted to a quantum processing unit.AWS already supports this model through Amazon Braket Hybrid Jobs, which provisions classical resources, submits quantum tasks to a selected QPU, and returns results to AWS services such as Amazon S3.
Job metrics can also be monitored through Amazon CloudWatch.Oracle plans to use a similar hybrid model within OCI by placing Helios alongside its existing GPU and HPC infrastructure.Rather than replacing conventional infrastructure, the quantum processor would handle selected parts of workloads suited to quantum execution.Microsoft Azure Quantum provides another example of how cloud platforms package quantum development workflows.Developers can use syntax checkers and emulators before submitting jobs to physical Quantinuum hardware.Oracle plans to provide its own path from development and testing to execution on Helios.
Its quantum service is expected to combine Quantinuum’s software stack with open-source hybrid programming frameworks, allowing developers to build, test, and refine quantum-classical applications before running suitable workloads on the system.Quantinuum commercially launched Helios in November 2025.The third-generation trapped-ion system contains 98 physical qubits and has been used in demonstrations involving 48 logical qubits.According to Quantinuum, Helios records an average two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921%.Gate fidelity measures the accuracy with which a quantum computer performs an operation, with higher fidelity reducing the number of errors introduced during quantum calculations.Helios is designed to operate in hybrid environments that combine quantum processing with conventional HPC and AI systems.
Quantinuum is also working with HPE on integrating quantum computing with HPC and AI infrastructure for hybrid workloads.The companies plan to explore workloads that combine quantum processors with AI and high-performance computing infrastructure.Their stated areas of interest include materials research, drug development, logistics, energy, and financial modelling.“We believe the next phase of enterprise computing will be shaped by bringing quantum, AI, and high-performance computing together,” Quantinuum CEO Rajeeb Hazra said.He added that deploying Helios inside OCI would give the companies an environment for exploring hybrid workloads and enterprise use cases.Oracle said the arrangement is also intended to provide universities and research institutions with access to quantum computing resources through cloud infrastructure.The cloud delivery model means those organisations can access quantum hardware without procuring and operating dedicated systems or specialised facilities.
AWS, Microsoft, and IBM already use similar cloud-based access models, although their hardware and deployment approaches differ from Oracle’s planned OCI service.Quantinuum has also pointed to power consumption as one area where quantum systems could complement conventional computing.The company has said Helios can use less power than large classical supercomputers for certain workloads, although such comparisons depend on the workload and do not represent like-for-like system performance.“By bringing Quantinuum’s Helios to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, we want to give developers a practical and secure way to explore how quantum computing could complement their existing AI and HPC workloads on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure while improving compute efficiency and energy use,” Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Executive Vice President Mahesh Thiagarajan said.Oracle has not disclosed when Helios will begin operating inside OCI.The company said only that a preview of its quantum service is planned for the coming months.See also: Oracle introduces “agentic cloud apps” into enterprise workflowsWant to learn more about Cloud Computing from industry leaders?
