Apples enterprise opportunity as Windows 10 support ends in 2025

.According to IDC’s latest data for Q1 2025, Apple shipped 5.5 million Macs in Q1, up from 4.8 million a year ago. That’s 14.1% year-over-year growth, the strongest of any top vendor.

Apple now holds 8.7% of the global traditional PC market, up from 8% in Q1 2024.Some of my favorite gear eufyCam 2C Upgrade your home security with wireless cameras that includes HomeKit compatibility.About Apple @ Work: Bradley Chambers managed an enterprise IT network from 2009 to 2021.

Through his experience deploying and managing firewalls, switches, a mobile device management system, enterprise grade Wi-Fi, 1000s of Macs, and 1000s of iPads, Bradley will highlight ways in which Apple IT managers deploy Apple devices, build networks to support them, train users, stories from the trenches of IT management, and ways Apple could improve its products for IT departments. The overall PC market grew 4.9% year-over-year, hitting 63.2 million units.Enterprise demand stayed strong, but a lot of Q1’s strength was likely vendors and customers pulling in shipments early to get ahead of the new US tariffs announced on April 2.

The bigger test will be Q2 and beyond. We could see a sharp drop-off.That said, one major tailwind could kick in later this year: the end of life for Windows 10.

Windows 10 end of life Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.That deadline is already driving replacement cycles in IT departments around the world.Machines that can’t be upgraded to Windows 11 are on borrowed time in the workplace.

Even though Windows 10 won’t stop working, for compliance reasons, many organizations will have to move them out of circulation. For organizations already using Apple devices or moving to more cloud-based workflows, this is a natural time to evaluate expanding the use of macOS in their workplace. With Apple Silicon offering multi-year hardware support, fast performance, and strong security out of the box, it’s become easier to justify the total cost of ownership for a Mac compared to a fleet of aging PCs.

When faced with a hardware refresh and OS upgrade, some organizations will look to shift more users to Apple rather than reinvest in new Windows hardware. It’s an opportunity to rethink their entire device strategy. Some of my favorite gear Abode Home Security System Abode is the best home security system and includes compatibility with HomeKit.

If you’ve already built out management tools for iPhone and iPad (and I’d argue almost every modern enterprise has), the infrastructure is already in place to expand macOS support with just a few clicks.Apple Silicon has proven its worth in the enterprise Roughly five years since its announcement, Apple Silicon on macOS has proven to be one of the biggest leaps forward in personal computing in years. The performance and battery life speak for themselves.

My 2020 MacBook Air is still running strong and is used daily.I don’t think I’ve ever said that about a nearly four-and-a-half-year-old laptop. The battery is still usable, and the performance is still strong.

Combine that with strong security and Apple’s track record for long-term software support, and it makes a strong case for expanding the use of Macs in the workplace.Wrap up The Windows 10 end-of-life deadline will force many decisions in the next 12 to 18 months. For many IT teams, it’s a chance to move beyond legacy hardware and toward a future where Macs play a bigger role at work.

Apple continues to grow its share of the market, and the Windows 10 deadline could give Apple a serious boost in enterprise adoption..  You’re reading 9to5Mac — experts who break news about Apple and its surrounding ecosystem, day after day.
