I make my own WLED strip controllers regularly from either ESP32-C3 or ESP8266 boards – cheap, easy – a bit more painful when you add sound reactive ability as you really need a little PCB for the sound sensor – and of course a box – but here we have the whole lot in one nicely boxed unit, able to take in 5v or 12v PD (USB-C) or 5v-24v on simple connectors and complete with multiple port options for output – also able to handle 3-pin or 4-pin addressable LEDs.Above is the controller connected to a WS2812b light set and a USB connector. The unit has not been set up – i.e.
straight out of the box, now I need to tell it about my WIFI – it currently has a light behind the button you see above, alternating red and red+blue.I look at my phone and WIFI settings – a new access point WLED_CCD850 shows up.I select that and….
I’m asked to select my WiFi access point and rename the device as is typical for WLED installations.Seconds later, done.I’ve renamed the device to IoTorero-LS6P.
and in my router I can see a new device has appeared on my network – good – the LEDs are by default glowing orange (and set to 30 LEDs).Nothing unusual for a WLED setup here except for the IoTorero branding.Ok so I didn’t quite get the renaming right, but sure enough on my network It’s there.
I change the number of LEDS to 203 (just what I had handy) and the lot all light up in orange. The button on the front of the unit is now simply glowing red.All that remains to be done is to see if the sound reactive section is working, or whether that needs setting up.
I pick my usual WLED RAINBOW effect and the LEDs are now happily sequencing through the colours – but shouting at the unit doesn’t do anything….so I’ll need to actually read the manual. Not seeing anything about sounds reactive in the manual.
The device is already setup for the Athom 24-key IR keyboard (not supplied) but for sound I guess I’ll have to go looking at the WLED site.Looking at the setup in the wLED control panel – sound-reactive seems to be set up already.AH, Rainbow in this setup is not sound reactive that’s why.
“noisemove” effect is definitely affected by my voice. This is odd as I have an SMLIGHT A1-SLWF-03 WLED controller in my pergola which I’m SURE has RAINBOW running in sound reactive mode..it DOES – I’m looking at my presets on the SMLIGHT unit – SR RAINBOW….
I knew it.More research needed – however this Athomtech unit clearly works out of the box, no hassles.Gemini has some ideas on my rainbow mode – but for now – house move work to do.
