Ookla’s Speedtest Connectivity Report results are in, and AT&T reigns as the fastest fixed internet service provider (ISP) in the U.S. It’s not surprising, considering AT&T’s fast fiber tech offers its customers symmetrical upload and download speeds from 300 – 5,000 Mbps. According to Ookla’s speedtest data, AT&T’s median download speed was 363.54 Mbps and its median upload speed was 295.52 Mbps in the first half of 2025. Why AT&T’s speed matters to you This doesn’t necessarily mean that AT&T provides the fastest internet plans in the country.Instead, AT&T customers experienced the fastest median speeds out of other top providers considered in Ookla’s report. Ookla compiles these results by examining millions of consumers’ speed test results, calculating the median speeds from those results and creating a speed score for each provider (a metric that considers the provider’s download speed, upload speed and latency).AT&T had a speed score of 78.33, pushing it to the top of the rankings. While this is indeed a positive reflection on AT&T’s performance, keep in mind that it doesn’t always mean AT&T is your best and fastest option.
You must consider the providers available at your specific location and what you need from your internet connection. Here’s how other top ISPs ranked: The top three providers in these rankings are all fiber providers.Frontier Fiber and AT&T offer very similar speed tiers, with Frontier’s speeds ranging from 200 – 5,000 Mbps, and even faster in some locations. Verizon Fios also has a reliable fiber network with speeds up to 2,300 Mbps.If these results tell you anything, they signify fiber providers’ position as the fastest and most reliable internet tech type out there. However, the other providers behind AT&T, Frontier and Verizon aren’t too shabby, either.
It’s important to keep in mind that while providers like AT&T do offer some of the fastest speeds, it doesn’t always mean they’re the best provider for you. ISPs like Xfinity and Spectrum offer mostly cable service, but they are widely available and provide some of the best bundling options and discounts in the country.One of these providers may be the right choice for you if you want to sign up for multiple services (and save while you’re at it), and if you don’t necessarily want (or need) a provider that offers multi-gig speeds. T-Mobile speedtest recorded a median download speed of 245.48 Mbps with a speed score of 79.95. Like we mentioned with AT&T, even though T-Mobile is clearly the winner in Ookla’s mobile connectivity report, always consider your own internet needs before choosing a provider and plan. If you’re already a T-Mobile mobile customer, it may be worth it since you can get 5G internet at a discount.But if you are a very heavy internet user or have multiple people in your home streaming, gaming or working from home, a mobile provider may not be well suited to your connectivity needs.
