Comcast will turn your Xfinity router into a home motion detector (in exchange for some privacy)

Your internet service provider's bundled modem could soon serve as a home security tool.Comcast has launched an Xfinity Shield platform that not only protects against online threats, but can stand in as a motion detector to alert you to physical intruders.An optional Wi-Fi Motion feature uses disruptions in radio frequencies between the Xfinity Gateway router and Wi-Fi devices to detect unexpected motion.

If you're away from home, the Xfinity app can warn you of a potential burglar without relying on security cameras or dedicated sensors.Xfinity Shield also includes a CyberSecure feature that protects against malware, phishing, and hacks.Family Settings also let you limit access to apps and Wi-Fi to keep children focused on homework and real-world play.
