Review: ShiftCam's Fisheye lens is a fun way to capture wider shots on your iPhone - 9to5Mac

The iPhone is capable of capturing plenty of varying scenes, and has been for many years.Ever since iPhone 11 Pro, we’ve had a triple camera array, allowing for ultrawide, wide, and telephoto shots.Despite this, many companies still offer third party lens solutions for your iPhone, allowing you to capture even more with your iPhone.

ShiftCam is one of those companies, and today I’ll be reviewing their LensUltra Fisheye lens. It’s like an Ultrawide, but with a bit more perspective.Overview When using this Fisheye lens with your iPhone’s wide-angle lens, you can get an ultrawide-like perspective, but with the better image quality of your main wide-angle lens.

You also get the same type of distortion you’d get with a 360 camera, allowing for a unique look compared to what’s built into your iPhone. The lens comes with a nice fabric pouch for carrying it around, and it also comes with a cleaning pen and polishing cloth. To mount it on your iPhone, you’ll need one of ShiftCams cases – though they are quite nice.

Photos Once you have everything set up, you can start taking some nice photos, and I’ll be delving into a couple of my samples. As you can see, the Fisheye lens captures a visually wider scene, and since you’re using the main sensor on your iPhone, the colors appear more true-to-life, and things appear left soft. With the ShiftCam lens, you can see a bit more – though it is quite easy to accidentally get your finger in the shot – which I did here.

Beyond that though, its a fun perspective worth experimenting with.Wrap up You can pick up the Fisheye 200° lens for $129.99 on Amazon, and you can pick up one of their nice fabric MagSafe cases for the iPhone 16 lineup for $49.99 on Amazon. It’s a bit pricey for an external attachment, and it’s certainly more to carry around.

That said, if you’re committed to the #ShotOniPhone life, it’s a fun way of leveling up your photos with a unique look – and that can be worth it.ShiftCam offers a number of other lenses for iPhone, and ideally I’ll review those with time – but the Fisheye lens is certainly a lot of fun and I’d recommend it to a lot of people. My favorite Apple accessory recommendations: Anker MagSafe 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand with Qi2 Aulumu Vegan Leather MagSafe Case for iPhone 16 MOFT Magnetic Wallet Stand, fits up to 3 cards AirTag 4-pack (on sale for 20% off!)
