If you haven’t upgraded your iPhone recently, I don’t blame you.Smartphones aren’t improving much year over year, which means people are upgrading far less often. It’s good for your wallet, as well as the planet.Apple is probably less happy about this situation, which is why it often changes the design of the iPhone (or makes a bright orange one) to tempt you into buying the latest version, even if your current handset works perfectly well.

It has a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch one on the inside.Considering the Pixel has an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.4-inch outer, I wonder if the iPhone’s outer screen won’t be a bit larger than 5.5-inches.Prosser says the phone will be 9mm when closed and a very slim 4.5mm when open, which would make it thicker than the 4.2mm Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.Surprisingly, there is no Face ID on this phone, with circular punch-hole cameras on the middle of the front screen and the top left of the inner. This makes it look like an Android phone to me, and I would be quite surprised if this turns out to be Apple’s design. The power button is now said to house the Touch ID sensor, which would be a first for an iPhone but we have seen this on the iPad Air.

The button is moved to the top of the iPhone, not seen since the iPhone 5C and 5S in 2013.There are two rear cameras in a thin bar on the back of the phone reminiscent of the iPhone Air’s design.Prosser says Apple has used “high density” batteries, but did not say if the firm has opted to use more energy efficient silicon carbon tech. The phone is also said to use a new Apple C2 cellular modem.Apple's John Ternus shares insight into the new iPhone The Action Button and volume buttons are on the right edge - this seems like a big change for Apple to make but is consistent with book style foldable designs from other manufacturers. The iPhone Fold is said to be available in black or white and cost between $2,000 and $2,500.This is the first major claimed leak of the folding iPhone, and while it’s interesting to see what could be coming from Apple, I would take these renders with a pinch of salt.

While it’s true that manufacturers are beholden to physics and size constraints when designing folding phones, meaning they often look similar to rivals’ phones, I don’t know that Apple would so closely follow the design of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and earlier 9 Pro Fold. The corners of the front screen on the render where the hinge joins the frame are like the Pixel’s and are therefore asymmetrical.I just can’t see Apple’s design department making this decision, personally, but I am intrigued to see, one day, if Prosser got this right. If he did, Apple will be fuming.Prosser says we are only going to get iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max alongside the iPhone Fold, suggesting Apple will run with the iPhone 17 for longer rather than replace it with an iPhone 18.If true, that might explain why the iPhone 17 got so many upgrades over the iPhone 16, including a slightly larger screen that finally got a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, always-on option, dual 48MP cameras and improved battery life.
