One of the criticisms of data centres from outside the industry is that, after a flurry of employment before and during the construction phases, the actual permanent employment levels drawing from the local populace are fairly low.Automated operations mean that even in very large installations, perhaps only a few dozen staff are required, albeit around the clock, to keep the data centre operating at peak performance.
But with the enormous sums of investment on the line, choosing the personnel who will keep the facility generating income becomes an important decision. And it’s here where specialist personnel providers move into focus. One company, the Southeastern Wisconsin-based CC&N is expanding its infrastructure support portfolio into supplying the demand for skilled people in the latest DCs.
What makes CC&N different is the inherent investment that each member of the CC&N team has – the company is has a , so it’s in each person’s interest that every issue, every ticket pertaining to the site is resolved as well and as quickly as it possibly can be.“Our Day 2 Infrastructure Support teams stay embedded in the environment, helping organizations manage change without compromising performance. We focus on getting the details right so issues don’t surface later,” says Dan Witkofski, the company’s president.
CC&N’s infrastructure support workers are skilled technicians who operate in live data centre environments as extensions of its clients’ teams. They come experienced in common workflows and ticketing environments, so can hit the ground running in virtually any environment, the company says.“Day 2 support is about maintaining control in environments that are constantly changing.
[…] Our teams bring the operational discipline and hands-on expertise needed to keep infrastructure organized, responsive and reliable as demands grow,” Witkofski said.Teams members operate in hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data centres, and the dedicated teams are recent addition to the company’s other services, which range from design and project management of new facilities through to consulting, and in this most recent case, providing expert boots on the ground. The specialist equipment and needs of the latest generation of data centres need staff that are experienced and skilled in the space, and data centre operators making large investments in new facilities need to be sure that the daily problems encountered on keeping uptime levels consistently high are solved quickly by professionals who know what they’re doing.
CC&N’s business model all but guarantees that its technicians and experts will ensure smooth running and happy end-users of data centres.
