If you drive a Ford Mustang or Mustang Mach-E, you may need to take your vehicle to the dealership in the near future.Ford has issued two separate recall campaigns covering 110,626 vehicles due to a windshield wiper defect and a rear differential issue that can result in a sudden loss of power. The recalls affect both the gas-powered performance car, including the high-dollar Mustang GTD, and the brand's electric crossover.
Ford has issued 56 recalls so far in 2026, more than any other automaker, including an expanded recall for Focus and Fusion owners after a dealership software error left an earlier repair incomplete.Meanwhile, the automaker has recalled over 740,000 trucks and SUVs due to a park-by-wire issue.A software glitch in certain Ford and Lincoln models can cause the transmission to lose the ability to hold the vehicle in park, allowing it to move unexpectedly if the parking brake is not set.
The company has said its recall count reflects a proactive approach to catching quality issues early.Ford topped JD Power's Initial Quality Study among mass-market brands in 2026.Ford Mustang 2026 Base: $32,320 Base Trim Engine EcoBoost 2.3L ICE Base Trim Transmission 10-speed automatic Base Trim Drivetrain Rear-Wheel Drive Powered by Expand Collapse The Mustang recall: wipers may fail in cold weather Communication fault between the wiper motor and steering column Close The larger of the two recalls covers 67,842 gas-powered Mustangs, including 2024 through 2026 model-year cars built between September 18th, 2024, and February 2nd, 2026.
Mustang GTD coupes, both 2025 and 2026 model years, built between January 16th, 2025, and February 2nd, 2026, are also included in this recall.According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the wiper motor can lose Local Interconnect Network (LIN) communication with the steering column control module once temperatures drop to 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below. When these weather conditions are present, the wipers may operate only on their highest setting, while the washer fluid pump may also fail to activate.
The potential for reduced visibility in winter prompted NHTSA to classify the recall as a safety hazard, although there appear to be no crashes or injuries linked to the defect at the time of this writing.Affected Models: 2024-2026 Ford Mustang and 2025-2026 Mustang GTD.The Fix: Dealers will inspect the wiper motor and replace it if necessary.
Ford's internal number for this campaign is 26C32.This particular recall stands out because cars like the Mustang, especially the GTD, are unlikely to be driven during the winter, meaning owners might never discover the issue. In the event the wipers were to lock on their highest speed, and the washer fluid pump were to stop working at the same time, it would leave drivers with reduced visibility in the kind of weather a performance car is least equipped to handle.

It applies only to rear-wheel drive configurations. With the RWD Mustang Mach-E, there is potential for the rear differential pinion shaft, a component that transfers power from the electric motor to the rear wheels, to bend or fracture under load.If the shaft were to break or fracture while the Mach-E is moving, the driver would lose power without warning.
A fractured pinion shaft can also prevent the transmission from locking into Park.If an owner were to leave their Mustang Mach-E parked without setting the electronic parking brake, it could roll away.Affected Models: 2021-2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E, rear-wheel drive only The Fix: Dealers will inspect the rear differential assembly.
