If you’re a Chrome user still running macOS Big Sur, you’ll soon have to decide which of the two you’ll want to update, as Google just confirmed it’s dropping support for macOS 11.Here is the timeline.Chrome 139, expected to ship on July 30, won’t run on macOS 11 In its Chrome Platform Status page, Google has confirmed that Chrome 138 will be the last version to support macOS 11, with Chrome 139, scheduled to ship on July 30, requiring macOS 12 or newer.
Here’s the full announcement from Google: In essence, this means that the browser will continue to work on unsupported systems, but it will display a warning and no longer receive new features or updates.For new installations of Chrome, macOS 12 or later will be required outright.If you’ve been holding off on updating macOS but want to keep getting the latest Chrome features and security fixes, now might be the time to make the jump.
