At CES 2025, MacPaw unveiled Eney, an all new AI-powered companion that’ll complete tasks for you.It taps into the plethora of apps available on Setapp, and serves as an assistant of sorts.Eney is available in public beta starting today.
I’ve had the opportunity to test it out early, and it’s certainly a strong offering.MacPaw describes Eney as a computerbeing. It lives on the side of your Mac display (think something like Dynamic Island on iPhone – it integrates seamlessly with the side bezel), and you can invoke it when you move your cursor towards it.
Once Eney is invoked, you have a nice little chat window, where you can either describe a task, ask a question, or select from one of the suggested prompts. There’s also a quick button to refresh the suggested prompts if you need some additional inspiration.Eney already has integration with MacPaw apps and select Setapp partners, including CleanMyMac and ClearVPN, and some others.
It also has an emphasis on privacy and security, with local data processing.MacPaw is also open to feedback, with Eney offering a built in feedback loop. You can quickly drop a thumbs up or down on a response, and let MacPaw know what went wrong.
This’ll improve Eney in future iterations.Eney has memory, natural communication, and contextual search. You don’t have to worry about including every single detail in your first prompt, as it’ll still be able to piece together details you add later.
Eney also has a ‘wand’ feature, where you’ll be able to select an area of your screen and ask Eney for assistance with that thing. With the beta launch, Eney will focus on three key categories: productivity, utility, and cybersecurity. You’ll be able to do a lot of the more basic tasks that you could in macOS Spotlight, such as converting currencies, measurements, or checking the weather.
It can go a lot deeper, though – with Eney offering the ability to convert file formats for you, summarize files, summarize YouTube videos, enhance image quality, quickly remove backgrounds from JPEGs, and much more.It can also eliminate the need for you to open the Settings app or Activity Monitor for basic system information, with Eney offering storage, memory, and CPU usage insights. You can also do simple one-off things like an internet speed test.
That’s just scratching the surface.Eney will also tap into external apps to get tasks done.At launch, it’ll be able to integrate with CleanMyMac for doing typical Mac cleaning tasks, such as updating apps, clearing up dated files, and so on.
It’ll also integrate with ClearVPN.With these integrations, you don’t actually have to use external apps, and their interfaces integrate within Eney for a seamless experience.Third party app integrations will also be announced in the near future.
Many top apps in the Setapp library will be usable within Eney by the time it launches later this year.If you’re a developer and would like to build an Eney skill, you can look into that on their website.Outside of all of this though – Eney has one last trick up its sleeve: Expert Zone.
With this feature, which won’t be enabled in today’s beta launch, Eney will be able to generate code to complete tasks that aren’t yet supported. In short, Eney will be a great companion to assist in any task you’d ordinarily do on your Mac.Setapp subscribers can sign up for the Eney waitlist starting today.
MacPaw will begin letting people use Eney as soon as possible. You can also learn more about Eney on the MacPaw website. My favorite Apple accessory recommendations: Anker 25K Compact Power Bank with retractable cable MOFT Magnetic Wallet Stand, fits up to 3 cards AirTag 4-pack (on sale for 20% off!)
