Article continues below ADVERTISEMENTAlthough Archer 8 represents a significant step forward, widespread adoption of Wi-Fi 8 may still take time. Many smartphones, laptops and tablets do not yet support the new standard, meaning users may not immediately experience its full benefits.Ben Walsh, Marketing Director for UK & Ireland at TP-Link, said: "As the way we live, stream and game at home changes, our networks must adapt and evolve.Archer 8 has been engineered to cater to the reality of home life: multiple devices on the network, walls and floors between the router and user, and interference from wireless devices.
The resulting product represents a major step forward in delivering a faster, more reliable connected experience for the entire home and businesses alike."TP-Link isn't the only company pushing Wi-Fi technology forward.US chipmaker Qualcomm has also unveiled its latest Wi-Fi 8 platform, which it claims will deliver significant improvements over current wireless connectivity. The new FastConnect 8800 Connectivity System is being positioned as the world's first Wi-Fi 8 mobile solution with a 4x4 radio configuration.Qualcomm says this will enable download speeds exceeding 10Gbps.At those speeds, downloading a full-length movie could take just seconds.A file that might currently require several minutes to download on a typical broadband connection could arrive almost instantly on compatible devices.Beyond faster performance, Qualcomm says its new platform will also improve range and reliability, helping deliver stronger signals in more rooms while maintaining stable connections across an ever-growing number of connected devices. If those promises are fulfilled, Wi-Fi 8 could mark one of the biggest improvements to home networking in years—making slowdowns, dead zones and unreliable connections far less common.WHAT IS Wi-Fi 8Wi-Fi 8 is the upcoming generation of wireless networking technology, expected to build on the capabilities of Wi-Fi 7.
Rather than focusing mainly on higher peak speeds, Wi-Fi 8 is designed to improve reliability, efficiency, and consistent performance in crowded environments such as offices, stadiums, airports, and smart homes. It aims to reduce latency, improve roaming between access points, and provide more stable connections for devices moving through a network.Wi-Fi 8 is expected to support advanced coordination among access points and better spectrum utilisation.
These enhancements will help deliver smoother experiences for video streaming, gaming, cloud applications, and IoT devices.
