Polestar recently announced it will release four new vehicles between now and 2028, a move the automaker called its largest product offensive since launching as a standalone operation from Volvo in 2017.The models include the Polestar 5 Grand Tourer (GT) this summer, a new variant of the Polestar 4 in Q4 2026, the next-gen Polestar 2 in early 2027, and a compact premium SUV, the Polestar 7, in 2028.Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said the brand is focused on targeting the heart of the EV market where “customer demand and profit pools are high.” New equity investments Capital infusion is a shot in the arm News of Polestar’s ambitious product offensive comes a little over two weeks after the company announced a USD $400 million equity investment by Feathertop Funding Limited, a special purpose vehicle consolidated to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, with each contributing USD $200 million.
“Following the new equity financing and the funding announcements in December, and with the support of Geely Holding, we continue to make progress on enhancing our liquidity position and strengthening our balance sheet,” Lohscheller said.“With a record year of retail sales behind us, we are fully focused on creating a stronger Polestar.” The December funding announcement Lohscheller is referring to is a USD $300 million equity investment split between Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A., and Natixis. That announcement, made on December 19th 2025, also stated that Geely Sweden Holdings AB had agreed with Polestar to convert approximately USD $300 million of its outstanding principal and interest (owed by Polestar) under a Term Facility Agreement into equity.
As reported by in late December 2025, Polestar has lost nearly all of its market value since 2022 and has accumulated USD $8 billion in losses even with its asset-light business model.Despite continued financial and market challenges in 2025, Polestar delivered over 60,000 vehicles to customers, a 34% increase from 2024.Polestar expects low double-digit volume growth in 2026.
“For retail sales volumes, 2025 has been the best year ever for Polestar, despite continued external headwinds and challenging market conditions,” Lohscheller said.“We are gaining market share and outselling many established car brands across key European markets, a testament to the expansion of our sales network, which has grown by over 50% this year, our attractive model line-up, and the team’s hard work.” The equity investments will give Polestar a shot in the arm as it lays the groundwork for its latest product offensive between now and 2028, which is a make-or-break moment for the brand.Although ambitious, Polestar’s product roadmap is strategic, doubling down on its existing models while expanding into new territory.
Across its lineup, Polestar is also looking to integrate the latest technology, most notably Google Gemini, which it exhibited at Slush in Helsinki, Finland, in late November 2025.Polestar 5 Strong contender against the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz EQS The first vehicle to arrive is the Polestar 5, with deliveries expected from the summer of 2026 onward.Revealed in September 2025, the four-door GT features an 800-volt electrical architecture and a dual-motor configuration that delivers nearly 750 horsepower and 600 lb-ft.
of torque.A Performance variant increases the output to 884 horsepower and 749 lb-ft.of torque.
Other key features include Recaro front seats, bespoke Michelin tires, an optional Bowers & Wilkins 21-speaker audio system, and a host of active safety systems. With the Polestar 5, the brand can take market share from vehicles like the Porsche Panamera and the Mercedes-Benz EQS.As of December 2025, the Polestar 5 is a playable vehicle in Gran Turismo 7 for the PlayStation 4 and 5, something that can further elevate its image.
The Gran Turismo franchise has surpassed 100 million sales, and its popularity among gamers and car enthusiasts can only help Polestar as it plans its product offensive.Polestar 4 Space of an estate, versatility of an SUV The new variant of the Polestar 4 will follow in Q4 2026, which is the brand’s top-selling model.Described as a vehicle that offers coupe aerodynamics with SUV spaciousness, the Polestar 4 competes with the Porsche Macan EV, BMW iX3/X4, and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.
Available with single-or dual-motor powertrains with up to 544 horsepower and 506 lb-ft.of torque, the Polestar 4 has Brembo brakes, active dampers, and eco-friendly interior materials.“Already by the end of this year, we will launch a new variant of Polestar 4, based on the same great technology,” Lohschelle said.
“We are combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar.” In addition to Europe, the brand is targeting Florida and California specifically with the Polestar 4, the two largest EV markets in the United States. In December 2025, Polestar opened a new retail location in Coral Gables, Florida, citing how the Miami-Dade County area had seen more than 39,000 EV registrations over the past year. With a new version of its top seller, Polestar can make further headway in states like Florida and California, thereby ensuring its overall product launch offensive is successful through 2028.
Polestar 2 Understated luxury, fastback design The next generation of the Polestar 2 will arrive in early 2027.An EV fastback, the Polestar 2 was the brand’s first mainstream offering when it launched in 2019, designed to compete with the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4.Powertrain upgrades for the 2024 model year increased its range by 20%, cut its charging time by nearly 35%, and reduced its overall carbon footprint.
While originally crafted to compete with Tesla and BMW, the revised Polestar 2 has the potential to sway those loyal to brands like Audi, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz.Like the current model, the revised Polestar 2 can lean into its understated luxury rather than being a “computer on wheels,” a label that can sometimes be applied, for better or worse, to modern EVs.Understated luxury, combined with the vehicle’s eco-focused credentials and fastback design, may be enough to give buyers loyal to another manufacturer pause.
“Polestar 2 is the foundation of our brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and an enthusiastic community of customers,” Lohschelle explained, adding that the car Polestar first became known for will play a key role for the company going forward.Polestar 7 Premium compact SUV may find willing buyers The last of the four models planned under the brand’s product offensive is the Polestar 7, a compact premium SUV expected to debut in 2028.In its press announcement detailing the four-model product roadmap, Polestar confirmed its availability in Europe but did not explicitly say whether the vehicle will be available in the United States.

“We are entering the largest EV segment in Europe, the compact SUV segment, which accounts for approximately one-third of total battery electric vehicle volumes in 2025,” Lohschelle said of the Polestar 7.“We are convinced that we can offer customers a progressive, performance-driven car for a very attractive price point, built in Europe.” Should the Polestar 7 set its wheels down stateside, it will face plenty of competition, but the upside is a large potential customer base, especially if Polestar can keep the starting MSRP under $50,000.The Polestar 7, as a premium compact SUV, could be an attractive option for both younger professionals and older Americans looking to downsize who are not sold on a BMW X3, Audi Q5, or Tesla Model Y.
Dealership and retail network expansion Cautious optimism remains As part of its four-model rollout through 2028, Polestar plans to expand its retail network by 30%, with the majority (if not all) of that expansion occurring in 2026.Polestar will also hold fast to its sustainability roadmap, including halving per-vehicle-sold greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and becoming climate-neutral across its value chain by 2040.The consensus on r/Polestar seems to be one of cautious optimism.
While some expressed concern that Polestar could face a fate similar to Fisker, others noted its connections to Geely and Volvo place it in a much stronger position. Some expressed concern about what would happen to vehicle maintenance if Polestar faced long-term financial trouble, though others noted that Volvo would likely step in to support with service at its dealerships.Broadly speaking, product roadmaps, even aggressive ones like Polestar's, are neither new nor unique in the automotive industry.
What is different, however, is that Polestar, while close to Volvo, isn’t a legacy manufacturer. It’s also not a start-up, having a track record now of vehicle production and a growing retail network. It’s somewhere in the middle, which might play to its advantage over the next few years as it rolls out its latest offerings.
”2025 was a year of continuous operational progress and delivery,” Lohschelle said.“With our attractive model line-up, strong shareholder support, and partners with access to the latest technology, Polestar is set to become one of the winners of the automotive industry’s transformation.”
