This third-party Plex client with a sleek design just got an upgrade

Plezy is a third-party Plex client for Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile platforms with a sleek design and a few unique features. If you're annoyed with the official Plex apps, you should give Plezy a spin—especially after the most recent update.Initially released in October 2025, Plezy is an open-source Plex client built with the cross-platform Flutter framework.

You can sign in with your Plex account, browse your libraries, and play anything from your available servers.Besides the flashier design, it also has impressive codec support (HEVC, AV1, VP9, etc.), support for HDR and Dolby Vision on some platforms, Watch Together, and offline downloads support.Plezy 1.16 has just been released with collapsible long descriptions, an unwatched counter for TV shows, separated chapter/skip buttons, the ability to delete media files, and a tweaked design for TV banners.

The other improvements include Watch Next support on Android TV, a tooltip while hovering on the timeline, and Spanish localization. This is also the first version available on the Amazon Appstore, so you can now install it on Fire TV devices and Fire tablets without sideloading. There's now an official Homebrew cask as well, so you can install Plezy on macOS and keep it updated through Homebrew, instead of downloading the DMG files each time.

The App Store listing is still only for the iPad version.Plezy also now has a pure black OLED theme option in the settings, alongside the existing light, dark, and automatic options. You're not going to see much of a power usage difference with this option on OLED screens, since most of your time in the app will be watching movies and TV shows, but it's there anyway.

There's also a long list of bug fixes in this release.Problems with first-login profile selection, missing label filters, D-pad navigation on TVs, offline downloads, blurry cover images, keyboard shortcuts, and other features have been addressed.Plezy isn't the only alternative to the main Plex apps—Infuse is another option for Apple devices—but it's shaping up to be one of the best alternatives.

Even though Plex has addressed many of the problems with its updated client over the last year, it's still not a perfect experience, especially with the removal of Watch Together support.Subscribe to our newsletter for Plezy and Plex client updates Get focused coverage of Plezy and other Plex clients—subscribe to the newsletter for clear reporting on new releases, platform availability, feature changes, and technical notes so you'll always have a single source for app updates.Subscribe By subscribing, you agree to receive newsletter and marketing emails, and accept our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
